2017 Senate Joint Resolution 42
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the commitment-to-family policy of Karen Bogenschneider of Verona, Wisconsin.
Whereas, Karen Bogenschneider grew up the daughter of a cheesemaker in rural Wisconsin; and
Whereas, Karen started her career in Iowa County in 1972 as a family living agent with the University of Wisconsin–Extension; and
Whereas, Karen earned her PhD in child and family studies with a minor in public policy education from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1990; and
Whereas, Karen became a professor of human development and family studies in 1991, became executive director of the Wisconsin Family Impact Seminars in 1992, and was named Rothermel-Bascom Professor of Human Ecology in 2003; and
Whereas, Karen assumed leadership of the national Policy Institute for Family Impact Seminars in 1999 to assist other states in implementing the Family Impact Seminar model until 2014; and
Whereas, Karen met annually with dozens of state legislators on both sides of the aisle to create seminars that were objective, timely, and useful on topics such as early brain science, prisoner reentry, foster care, and prescription drug costs; and
Whereas, Karen was appointed to the National Academy of Science Roundtable on the Application of Social and Behavioral Science Research, received the President's Award from the National Council on Family Relations, and served as a governor's appointee to the White House Conference on Children and Families in 1980; and
Whereas, Karen gave an invited address at the United Nations 20th anniversary celebration of the International Year of the Family and has been invited to speak to many national and international audiences on evidence-based family policy; and
Whereas, Karen has been committed to improving the lives of families in the state of Wisconsin and beyond for more than 40 years; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin Legislature do honor the exemplary career of Karen Bogenschneider for her outstanding service to our state and her leadership of the nonpartisan Wisconsin Family Impact Seminars, congratulate Karen on her stellar academic career, and wish Karen success and happiness in her retirement; and, be it further
Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall transmit a copy of this joint resolution to Karen Bogenschneider.
