2021 Assembly Joint Resolution 131
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: honoring the life and public service of Representative Bonnie Ladwig.
Whereas, Bonnie Lorraine Ladwig, who devoted much of her life to serving her community and her state, passed away on December 22, 2020; and
Whereas, Bonnie was born in Milwaukee, on December 11, 1939, graduated from Shorewood High School, and attended UW-Milwaukee; and
Whereas, Bonnie married Jim Ladwig on December 19, 1958, forming a partnership that would endure for 62 years; and
Whereas, Bonnie became an active member of the Racine area community, serving on the Racine County Board from 1984 to 1996, as well as many other organizations, such as the Racine Taxpayers Association and the Racine Arts Council; and
Whereas, in 1992, Bonnie was elected as a Republican to represent the 63rd Assembly District—a district formerly represented by her husband Jim—and served in this role through January 2005; and
Whereas, Bonnie rose through the ranks of legislative leadership, serving as majority caucus secretary during the 1995 session and assistant majority leader during the 1997, 1999, and 2001 sessions; and
Whereas, among her proudest accomplishments, Bonnie counted her role in revising laws relating to welfare, criminal sentencing, and juvenile justice; and
Whereas, outside of the legislature, Bonnie was known as a dedicated volunteer, a talented crafter, a faithful Christian, and a compassionate mother and grandmother; and
Whereas, Bonnie leaves behind her loving husband Jim, children Laura, Linda, and Jim, and seven grandchildren; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin State Legislature join in honoring the life and public service of Bonnie Ladwig and extend their condolences to her family and friends; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this resolution to Bonnie's husband, former Representative E. James Ladwig.
