ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: honoring the life and public service of Dr. Jacob Albert “Doc” Hines, D.V.M.
Whereas, Jacob Albert “Doc” Hines was born in West Salem, Ohio, on May 1, 1927, to Miles and Ruth Hines; and
Whereas, Doc graduated from Homer High School in Homerville, Ohio, in 1945 and joined the United States Army that year, serving in Europe; and
Whereas, Doc married Genevieve Harriet Mantz in 1947 after being discharged from the Army; and
Whereas, Doc studied chemistry and graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at The Ohio State University; and
Whereas, upon graduation, Doc moved to Oxford, Wisconsin, and began practicing veterinary medicine, which he would practice for 53 years, starting out by traveling from farm to farm and then founding the Adams Marquette Veterinary Service, which his son, Steve, still runs today; and
Whereas, Doc was an active member of the community, serving as a 4-H leader, school board member, and Wisconsin Board of Veterinary Examiners member and chair; and
Whereas, in 2001 Doc won a special election to represent the 42nd district in the Wisconsin State Assembly; and
Whereas, Doc served with distinction as the chair of the Assembly Committee on Public Health for six years; and
Whereas, Doc's experiences in the growing field of veterinary medicine brought a unique and valuable perspective to the legislature; and
Whereas, Dr. Jacob Albert “Doc” Hines, D.V.M., passed away on March 3, 2020, at the age of 92; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin Legislature honor the life and public service of Dr. Jacob Albert “Doc” Hines, D.V.M., and extend their condolences to Doc's family and friends; and, be it further
Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide a copy of this resolution to Doc's family.
