1995 - 1996 LEGISLATURE
March 13, 1996 - Introduced by Representatives Robson, Turner and Gronemus,
cosponsored by Senator Burke, by request of Al Thompson. Referred to
Committee on Highways and Transportation.
AB1014,1,2 1An Act to create 347.10 (5) and 347.13 (5) of the statutes; relating to:
2motorcycle headlamps and tail lamps.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, no person may operate a motor vehicle displaying any color
of light other than white or amber visible from directly in front of the vehicle or other
than red on the rear of the vehicle unless the use of a different color is specifically
permitted by statute. No person may operate a motorcycle upon a highway during
hours of darkness unless the motorcycle is equipped with 1 or 2 lighted white or
amber headlamps. No person may operate a motor vehicle upon a highway unless
the vehicle is equipped with a brake light that is activated by application of the brake
and that emits a plainly visible red or amber light.
This bill allows a motorcycle to display 1 or 2 lighted green lamps visible from
directly in front of the motorcycle, in addition to displaying the required lighted
white or amber headlamp. The bill also allows a motorcycle to display 1 or 2 green
lamps, which may not modulate or be activated by use of the brake, mounted on the
rear of the motorcycle.
For further information see the state fiscal estimate, which will be printed as
an appendix to this bill.
