1995 - 1996 LEGISLATURE
November 9, 1995 - Introduced by Representatives Hubler, Boyle, Handrick and
Seratti, cosponsored by Senator Jauch. Referred to Committee on Highways
and Transportation.
AB674,1,3 1An Act to amend 348.15 (3) (br) of the statutes; relating to: weight limit
2exceptions for vehicles and vehicle combinations transporting exclusively sand
3or gravel.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, a vehicle or vehicle combination that is transporting
exclusively scrap metal, or peeled or unpeeled forest products cut crosswise, is
permitted to carry a maximum of 21,500 pounds on any one axle, 37,000 pounds on
2 axles 8 or less feet apart, or 4,000 more pounds on at least 3 consecutive axles more
than 9 feet apart than allowed under the statutory gross weight table. These vehicle
weight limit exceptions do not apply on highways that are part of the national system
of interstate and defense highways.
This bill extends these vehicle weight limit exceptions to vehicles and vehicle
combinations that are transporting exclusively sand or gravel.
Because this bill concerns an exception to the vehicle weight limits specified in
ch. 348, stats., the department of transportation, as required by law, will prepare a
detailed report to be printed as an appendix to this bill.
For further information see the state fiscal estimate, which will be printed as
an appendix to this bill.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB674, s. 1 4Section 1. 348.15 (3) (br) of the statutes is amended to read:
