Whereas, Karl J. Goethel began his elective and public service career by being
3elected in November of 1964 as District Attorney of Pepin County, and he has been
4reelected to that office every 2 years since; and

Whereas, based on present records of elected district attorneys, Karl J. Goethel
6holds the distinction of presently being Wisconsin's longest serving district attorney;

Whereas, during his public service career as District Attorney of Pepin County,
9Karl J. Goethel has earned the respect of his legal colleagues, judges, defendants and
10courthouse-elected officials and employes as an individual of legal expertise,
11personal integrity and honesty; and

Whereas, as a lawyer and prosecutor, Karl J. Goethel has demonstrated a
13unique sense of humor and wit which have truly become a trademark of renown; and

Whereas, Karl J. Goethel has chosen to end his public service career as District
15Attorney of Pepin County by not seeking reelection in November of 1996; now,
16therefore, be it

1Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
2legislature of the state of Wisconsin commend Karl J. Goethel on his dedicated public
3service as a legal officer of Pepin County and the state of Wisconsin; and, be it further

4Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
5resolution to Mr. Karl J. Goethel.
