SJR10,1,1 1Relating to: the life and public service of Raymond Bice.
SJR10,1,42 Whereas, Raymond C. Bice was born on April 5, 1896, in La Crosse and died on
3December 14, 1994, in La Crosse, and at the time of his death was the oldest former
4member of the Wisconsin Senate; and
SJR10,1,105 Whereas, he served on the Eastern Front during World War I and was the first
6president of the La Crosse County Airport Committee from 1934 to 1936, served on
7the La Crosse County Board of supervisors from 1933 to 1938, was the chairperson
8of the La Crosse County Park Commission, was the president of the La Crosse
9County Chamber of Commerce, was the secretary of the La Crosse Vocational and
10Adult School Board and performed many other civic duties; and
SJR10,1,1211 Whereas, Mr. Bice served in the assembly from 1946 to 1953, and during part
12of his tenure he was the chairperson of the Transportation Committee; and
SJR10,1,1513 Whereas, he served in the senate from 1953 to 1968 and was the chairperson
14of the Public Welfare Committee, of the Committee on Committees and of the
15Physical Plant Maintenance Committee; and
SJR10,2,316 Whereas, after he completed his service in the legislature he used the skills that
17he had acquired during decades in the construction industry to build a house for

1himself and his wife and began devoting much of his time to painting and to writing
2books and articles and public speaking on La Crosse's history and on the role of a
3state legislator; and
SJR10,2,54 Whereas, Senator Bice was well known throughout the La Crosse area and
5received several honors for his service to the community; now, therefore, be it
SJR10,2,10 6Resolved by the senate, the Assembly concurring, That the members of the
7Legislature of the State of Wisconsin salute the many decades of public service that
8Raymond Bice gave to the people of this state and of the La Crosse region and the
9courtly and civil manner in which he gave that service, express their sorrow at his
10death and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
SJR10,2,12 11Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
12resolution to Mr. Bice's children: Elizabeth, Raymond, James and Richard.
