SJR42,1,63 Whereas, for decades the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison) has
4been ranked among the top universities in the United States, with undergraduate
5and graduate students alike benefiting from its dedication to excellence in teaching,
6research and public service; and
SJR42,1,107 Whereas, UW-Madison's tradition of excellence continues to be recognized
8with an announcement in September by the prestigious National Research Council
9(NRC) that 16 doctoral programs at UW-Madison rank among the nation's top 10 in
10their respective fields; and
SJR42,1,1311 Whereas, an additional 19 UW-Madison doctoral programs rank among the 25
12best in the nation, as reported in a comprehensive analysis conducted by the NRC
13every 10 years; and
SJR42,1,1614 Whereas, overall, the quality of UW-Madison's doctoral programs ranks
15among the top 10 of 274 doctorate-granting public and private universities included
16in the nationwide survey; and

1Whereas, the NRC survey illustrates UW-Madison's excellence across a wide
2variety of disciplines, from foreign languages to biochemistry, and from geography
3to computer science and engineering; and
SJR42,2,64 Whereas, the strength and prosperity of our citizens, communities and
5statewide economy is inextricably linked to the continued well-being and success of
6public higher education in Wisconsin; now, therefore, be it
SJR42,2,10 7Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the Wisconsin
8legislature congratulates UW-Madison and its distinguished faculty and staff for
9this national recognition, and for its steadfast commitment to preparing Wisconsin
10citizens for life, work and success in the 21st century.
