SJR43,1,1 Relating to: designating the Pabst Theater an official state historic theater.

SJR43,1,3 Whereas, the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Pabst Theater in Milwaukee is November 9, 1995; and

SJR43,1,7 Whereas, the Pabst Theater is historically important because of its age; its representation of the substantial contributions of persons of German heritage to Milwaukee's cultural life; and the many famous actors, musicians and conductors who have performed there; and

SJR43,1,9 Whereas, due to its historical significance, the Pabst Theater was designated a city landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places; and

SJR43,1,11 Whereas, in 1976 the theater was refurbished, and next year funds will be solicited to further refurbish it; and

SJR43,1,13 Whereas, the building is not only beautiful but also a fine example of German Baroque Revival architecture; and

SJR43,1,16 Whereas, the theater's design is both innovative and functional, featuring the first cantilevered theater balconies in the world and excellent acoustics; now, therefore, be it

SJR43,2,6 Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature recognize the significant part that the Pabst Theater, for 100 years, has played in the cultural life of this state by declaring it an official state historic theater, express their hopes that the theater's 100th birthday party and its upcoming fund-raising campaign will be resounding successes and look forward to many more years of service by this remarkable building; and, be it further

SJR43,2,8 Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to Philip Proctor, the executive director of the Pabst Theater.
