SJR46,1,1 1Relating to: the life and public service of Arthur Cirilli.
SJR46,1,32 Whereas, Arthur Cirilli was born on December 28, 1914, in Eveleth, Minnesota,
3and died on December 17, 1995, in Superior; and
SJR46,1,64 Whereas, he graduated from Hurley High School and the University of
5Wisconsin-Madison and earned a law degree from the University of
6Wisconsin-Madison; and
SJR46,1,87 Whereas, upon graduation from law school he joined the U.S. army, serving in
8the Pacific Theater during World War II; and
SJR46,1,99 Whereas, after returning from service he practiced law in Superior; and
SJR46,1,1010 Whereas, he served in the Wisconsin senate from 1967 until 1972; and
SJR46,1,1311 Whereas, during his tenure in the senate he was a member of a number of
12committees and was the chairperson of the Health and Social Services Committee;
13and
SJR46,1,1514 Whereas, Governor Lucey appointed him as a county judge in 1972, and he was
15elected to that position during the following spring; and
SJR46,2,216 Whereas, he served as a judge until 1983 and was honored by appointment to
17the Wisconsin Council on Criminal Justice and to the Wisconsin Judicial Plan

1Commission and, by election by his peers, as chief judge of the 13th judicial district;

SJR46,2,43 Whereas, after his retirement from the bench he remained active as a reserve
4judge and arbitrator and was of counsel to a law firm; and
SJR46,2,95 Whereas, Mr. Cirilli was active in many civic, fraternal, governmental and
6benevolent associations, such as the Douglas County Commission on Aging; the
7Duluth Airport Authority; the Eagles; the Elks; the American Legion; the Veterans
8of Foreign Wars; and the University of Wisconsin Board of Visitors; now, therefore,

SJR46,2,13 10Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
11legislature of the state of Wisconsin salute the many decades of service that Arthur
12Cirilli gave to the people of this state, express their sorrow at his death and extend
13their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
SJR46,2,16 14Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
15resolution to Mr. Cirilli's wife, Mary; his son, James; and his daughters, Rodie
16Cirilli-Clark and Mary Cirilli.
