1995 Senate JOINT RESOLUTION 46

SJR46,1,1 Relating to: the life and public service of Arthur Cirilli.

SJR46,1,3 Whereas, Arthur Cirilli was born on December 28, 1914, in Eveleth, Minnesota, and died on December 17, 1995, in Superior; and

SJR46,1,6 Whereas, he graduated from Hurley High School and the University of Wisconsin-Madison and earned a law degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison; and

SJR46,1,8 Whereas, upon graduation from law school he joined the U.S. army, serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II; and

SJR46,1,9 Whereas, after returning from service he practiced law in Superior; and

SJR46,1,10 Whereas, he served in the Wisconsin senate from 1967 until 1972; and

SJR46,1,13 Whereas, during his tenure in the senate he was a member of a number of committees and was the chairperson of the Health and Social Services Committee; and

SJR46,1,15 Whereas, Governor Lucey appointed him as a county judge in 1972, and he was elected to that position during the following spring; and

SJR46,2,2 Whereas, he served as a judge until 1983 and was honored by appointment to the Wisconsin Council on Criminal Justice and to the Wisconsin Judicial Plan Commission and, by election by his peers, as chief judge of the 13th judicial district; and

SJR46,2,4 Whereas, after his retirement from the bench he remained active as a reserve judge and arbitrator and was of counsel to a law firm; and

SJR46,2,9 Whereas, Mr. Cirilli was active in many civic, fraternal, governmental and benevolent associations, such as the Douglas County Commission on Aging; the Duluth Airport Authority; the Eagles; the Elks; the American Legion; the Veterans of Foreign Wars; and the University of Wisconsin Board of Visitors; now, therefore, be it

SJR46,2,13 Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the legislature of the state of Wisconsin salute the many decades of service that Arthur Cirilli gave to the people of this state, express their sorrow at his death and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further

SJR46,2,16 Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint resolution to Mr. Cirilli's wife, Mary; his son, James; and his daughters, Rodie Cirilli-Clark and Mary Cirilli.
