SJR47,1,2 1Relating to: commending the Green Bay Packers for their accomplishments during
2the past season.
SJR47,1,53 Whereas, at the beginning of the 1995-96 season, football prognosticators and
4analysts predicted that the Packers would fall short of the success they enjoyed in
5previous years; and
SJR47,1,76 Whereas, Packer fans wondered whether, but never doubted that, the team
7could succeed despite the loss of key players during the off-season; and
SJR47,1,98 Whereas, Packer players knew, and never doubted, that they could overcome
9any obstacle if they practiced and played as a team; and
SJR47,1,1110 Whereas, Packer management and coaches believed, and never doubted, that
11their players had the talent and team attitude to compete and win; and
SJR47,1,1412 Whereas, the team started the regular season strong and finished strong,
13including a last-minute thriller against the Pittsburgh Steelers before their loyal
14fans at Lambeau Field on Christmas Eve; and
SJR47,1,1615 Whereas, winning the last regular season game clinched the team's first
16National Football Conference Central Division title since 1972; and
SJR47,2,2
1Whereas, LeRoy Butler's practice of jumping into the crowd following a Packer
2score has now become a Lambeau Field tradition; and
SJR47,2,53 Whereas, the ghost of Terdel Middleton's 1978 season was exonerated by Edgar
4Bennett, who, assisted by the blocking of a superb offensive line, rushed for over
51,000 yards; and
SJR47,2,86 Whereas, Robert Brooks ran sterling routes and made sharp catches that made
7fans forget the name of that player who started at wide receiver last season for the
8Packers; and
SJR47,2,119 Whereas, by the grace of God, Reggie White rose up from a season-ending
10injury and was healed, just as the wounds of losing seasons past have been healed;
11and
SJR47,2,1412 Whereas, Brett Favre, the National Football League's Most Valuable Player,
13has solidified his position as a Packer legend, joining the company of Bart Starr, Paul
14Hornung, Ray Nitschke and other Packer greats; and
SJR47,2,1715 Whereas, home field play in 1995 was closed in celebratory fashion with a
16convincing Packer victory over the Atlanta Falcons on the frozen tundra of Lambeau
17Field; and
SJR47,2,2018 Whereas, the Packers dominated the defending Super Bowl champions in an
19impressive second-round playoff win that proved to the entire football world that the
20Pack is back; and
SJR47,2,2321 Whereas, despite a valiant effort, the Packers' season and the hopes of their
22fans came to a bitter end in the National Football Conference Championship Game
23against the Dallas Cowboys; and
SJR47,3,224 Whereas, although the season ended with a loss, the accomplishments of the
25team are much more impressive, considering their success has been achieved during

1an era of unrestricted free agency, team moves, greedy owners and disloyal players;
2and
SJR47,3,53 Whereas, Packer fans, who are known and respected as the most faithful in all
4of professional football, stood by and, at times, lifted up members of the team in the
5end zone; and
SJR47,3,96 Whereas, Packer President Bob Harlan; General Manager Ron Wolf; Head
7Coach Mike Holmgren; the entire coaching staff; the players; every member of the
8Packer organization; and the fans will continue to strive to help make the team the
9best in the National Football League; now, therefore, be it
