AB634,1,3 1An Act to amend 301.21 (title) and 301.21 (2m) (a) (intro.) and 7. of the statutes;

Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, the department of corrections (DOC) may contract with any
private person for the transfer and confinement in another state of prisoners who
have been committed to the custody of DOC. This bill provides that DOC may
contract with any private person for the transfer and confinement in this state or in
any other state
of prisoners who have been committed to the custody of DOC.

an appendix to this bill.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB634, s. 1 4Section 1. 301.21 (title) of the statutes, as affected by 1997 Wisconsin Act 27,
5is amended to read:

1301.21 (2m) (a) (intro.) The department may enter into one or more contracts
2with a private person for the transfer and confinement in another this state or in any

state of prisoners who have been committed to the custody of the department.
4Any such contract shall provide for all of the following:
AB634,2,65 7. The same standards of reasonable and humane care as the prisoners would
6receive in an appropriate Wisconsin state correctional institution.
