AB79,1,4 1An Act to amend 29.093 (2) (f) and 29.227 (1) (d); and to create 29.225 (4) (am)
2of the statutes; relating to: hunting of antlerless deer by certain holders of
3certificates of accomplishment issued under the hunter education and firearm
4safety program.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, a person who was born after December 31, 1972, must
complete a hunter education and firearm safety course before he or she can obtain
a hunting license. The department of natural resources (DNR) issues a certificate
to any person who successfully completes the course. This certificate authorizes the
hunting of small game in place of a small game hunting license from the date that
the certificate is issued until the following March 31. A minor successfully
completing the course may receive the certificate before he or she is 12 years old but
may not hunt until he or she is 12 years old.
Under this bill, DNR may authorize the certificate to be used to hunt one
antlerless deer during the deer season following the date that the certificate is issued
or, in the case of a minor, during the deer season following the minor's 12th birthday.
For further information see the state and local fiscal estimate, which will be
printed as an appendix to this bill.
