2Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Program and encouraging schools in Wisconsin to use
3the Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Program.
AJR108,1,64 Whereas, teaching children to act safely around firearms is a critical step in the
5ongoing effort to reduce the number of firearm-related accidents among children;
6and
AJR108,1,97 Whereas, each year the National Rifle Association, with the assistance of more
8than 25,000 firearms instructors certified by the National Rifle Association, trains
9more than 750,000 persons in safe, responsible firearm ownership and use; and
AJR108,1,1210 Whereas, it is the belief of the Wisconsin legislature and of the National Rifle
11Association that such training efforts are, to a major degree, responsible for a decline
12in gun-related accidents among children aged 14 and younger; and
AJR108,2,213 Whereas, the Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Program teaches the fundamentals of
14firearms safety to children in an effective and enjoyable way, communicating to them

1the following lifesaving message: "If you see a gun: STOP! DON'T TOUCH. LEAVE
2THE AREA. TELL AN ADULT."; and
AJR108,2,43 Whereas, the Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Program is a nationally recognized
4firearms safety program that has reached over 6,000,000 children since 1988; and
AJR108,2,65 Whereas, the Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Program was awarded the 1993
6Outstanding Community Service Award by the National Safety Council; and
AJR108,2,87 Whereas, the legislature wants to encourage civic activism and volunteerism
8rather than impose new unfunded state mandates on local governments; and
AJR108,2,119 Whereas, the legislature encourages the state superintendent of public
10instruction to promote the use of the Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Program in our schools
11to help prevent firearm-related accidents among children; and
AJR108,2,1512 Whereas, the legislature encourages civic and community service
13organizations that are concerned about the safety and well-being of the children of
14our state to provide funding for using the Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Program in our
15schools; now, therefore, be it
AJR108,2,21 16Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
17Wisconsin legislature encourage the promotion and use of the National Rifle
18Association's Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Program to help prevent firearms-related
19accidents and commend the National Rifle Association for its diligence and service
20in developing this program and making it available for use in our communities; and,
21be it further
AJR108,2,23 22Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
23resolution to the state superintendent of public instruction.
