AJR96,1,32 Whereas, Thomas Murray was born on May 12, 1938, in Superior and died on
3January 6, 1998, in Duluth, Minnesota; and
AJR96,1,54 Whereas, he graduated from Superior Central High School in 1957 and earned
5a degree in criminal science from the University of Wisconsin-Superior; and
AJR96,1,86 Whereas, Mr. Murray served in the U.S. Army, was employed by the Superior
7Police Department from 1960 to 1968 and was a Douglas County deputy sheriff from
81968 to 1972; and
AJR96,1,99 Whereas, he was elected to the assembly in 1972 and was reelected 4 times; and
AJR96,1,1110 Whereas, during his tenure in the assembly Mr. Murray rose to the position of
11chair of the transportation committee; and
AJR96,1,1312 Whereas, he was a member of the Wisconsin Deputy Sheriff's Association and
13the Wisconsin Professional Patrolman's Association; now, therefore, be it
AJR96,2,2 14Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
15Wisconsin legislature commend Thomas Murray's many years of devoted public

1service, express their grief at his death and extend their condolences to his family
2and friends; and, be it further
AJR96,2,4 3Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
4resolution to Mr. Murray's son, Thomas, and his daughter, Shawn.
