1999 - 2000 LEGISLATURE
April 9, 1999 - Introduced by Representatives Gunderson, Johnsrud,
Brandemuehl, Freese, Gard, Goetsch, Gronemus, Hahn, Hundertmark,
Albers, Montgomery, Musser, Owens, Petrowski, Powers, Seratti
and
Spillner, cosponsored by Senators Farrow, Lazich, Rude, Schultz and
Welch. Referred to Committee on Natural Resources.
AB272,1,2 1An Act to amend 29.164 (3) (b) 2. of the statutes; relating to: the issuance of
2wild turkey hunting licenses to qualified resident landowners.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, the department of natural resources (DNR) must give
preference in the issuance of wild turkey hunting licenses to applicants who are
qualified resident landowners. Under current law, an applicant is a qualified
resident landowner if the applicant owns at least 50 acres in one parcel in an
established wild turkey hunting zone and if the applicant agrees to allow other
persons to hunt wild turkeys on that land, if they obtain the applicant's permission
to do so.
This bill eliminates the requirement that a person, in order to obtain a wild
turkey hunting license as a qualified resident landowner, must agree to allow other
persons to hunt wild turkey on the land.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB272, s. 1 3Section 1. 29.164 (3) (b) 2. of the statutes is amended to read:

5resident who owns at least 50 acres in one parcel in an established wild turkey

1hunting zone and who agrees to allow other persons to hunt wild turkeys on that land
2if those persons first obtain permission to hunt from the landowner
. If more than one
3individual is the landowner of a single parcel of land, only one individual may be
4considered a qualified resident landowner.
