AJR56,1,32 Whereas, Robert E. Behnke was born in Milwaukee on April 7, 1932, and died
3in Milwaukee on March 26, 1999; and
AJR56,1,44 Whereas, he served in the Wisconsin assembly from 1973 to 1983; and
AJR56,1,65 Whereas, his priorities in the legislature reflected his background with the
6United Steelworkers Union at Continental Can Company; and
AJR56,1,87 Whereas, he served as chairperson of the Small Business Committee, the Rules
8Committee, and the Labor Committee; and
AJR56,1,99 Whereas, he was a member of the Elks and the Tripoli Temple; and
AJR56,1,1110 Whereas, his association with the Clown Unit of the Tripoli Shrine led to the
11creation of his alter ego "Shakey" who delighted many children; and
AJR56,1,1312 Whereas, Robert Behnke is fondly remembered by his former colleagues and
13friends in the legislature; now, therefore, be it
AJR56,2,2 14Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
15Wisconsin legislature commend the devoted public service Robert Behnke gave to

1this state, express their sorrow at his death and extend condolences to his family and
2friends; and, be it further
AJR56,2,5 3Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk provide copies of this joint resolution
4to Robert Behnke's wife, Dolores, and his children, Debra, Robert, Scott, David and
5Karen.
