AJR72,1,2 1Relating to: urging Congress to raise the amount of a veteran's pension paid to a
2surviving spouse.
AJR72,1,53 Whereas, veterans who meet the eligibility and service requirements are
4entitled to a pension from the U.S. government for the service provided to this
5country; and
AJR72,1,86 Whereas, when the veteran was alive he or she provided support for his or her
7spouse and was dependent on that spouse to maintain the family's household while
8the veteran was away from the home in the service of this country; and
AJR72,1,119 Whereas, the surviving spouse of a veteran who was eligible to receive a pension
10from the U.S. government for the service provided to this country is eligible to receive
11a pension from the U.S. government based on his or her spouse's eligibility; and
AJR72,1,1412 Whereas, the pension the U.S. government provides to a surviving spouse is
13significantly lower than the pension that the veteran would have received for
14services provided to this country and is often less than the poverty level; and

1Whereas, the living expenses of the household of the surviving spouse is usually
2not significantly lower than what the household's living expenses were when the
3veteran was alive; now, therefore, be it
AJR72,2,8 4Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
5legislature hereby respectfully urges the Congress of the United States to enact
6legislation to provide a pension to the surviving spouse of a veteran that is equal to
7the pension that the veteran would have received if he or she was alive; and, be it
8further
AJR72,2,11 9Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
10resolution to all members of the Wisconsin delegation to Congress and to the
11presiding officers of the U.S. house of representatives and the U.S. senate.
