AR15,1,3 1Relating to: urging Congress to approve legislation to halt additional acquisition
2of lands in Sauk and Columbia counties by the United States Fish and Wildlife
3Service.
AR15,1,7 4Whereas, the United States (U.S.) Fish and Wildlife Service has proposed the
5purchase of approximately 8,116 acres of land in the town of Fairfield, county of
6Sauk, and the town of Caledonia, county of Columbia, for the creation of the Aldo
7Leopold Wildlife Refuge; and
AR15,1,9 8Whereas, there is no public record of any local organization urging the U.S. Fish
9and Wildlife Service to pursue this proposal; and
AR15,2,2 10Whereas, the Wisconsin assembly supports local decision making and as it
11relates to the Aldo Leopold Wildlife Refuge proposal, the local government officials
12have opted to reflect the vocal majority's wishes, all affected now having approved
13resolutions in opposition to the land acquisition for the purpose being promoted by
14the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, including the Sauk County Board, the Columbia
15County Board, the towns of Fairfield in Sauk County and Caledonia in Columbia

1County, the Sauk County Agricultural Society, the town of Baraboo, the town of
2Greenfield and other local organizations; now, therefore, be it
AR15,2,7 3Resolved by the assembly, That the members of the Wisconsin assembly urge
4President Clinton and the Congress of the United States to approve legislation to
5halt additional acquisition of lands in Sauk and Columbia counties by the U.S. Fish
6and Wildlife Service or to halt action by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service by
7executive order; and, be it further
AR15,2,10 8Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this resolution
9to President Clinton, to each member of this state's congressional delegation and to
10the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
