SB222,1,2 An Act to amend 347.50 (1); and to create 347.50 (4m) of the statutes; relating to: mufflers on motorcycles and providing a penalty.

Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau

Under current law, a person who operates a motorcycle without a functioning muffler may be required to pay a forfeiture of not less than $10 nor more than $200. This bill raises the forfeiture for operating a motorcycle without a functioning muffler to not less than $100 nor more than $300.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

SB222, s. 1 Section 1. 347.50 (1) of the statutes is amended to read:

SB222,1,6 347.50 (1) Any person violating ss. 347.35 to 347.49, except s. 347.413 (1) or s. 347.415 (1), (2) and (3) to (5) or s. 347.417 (1) or s. 347.48 (2m) or (4) (a) or s. 347.486 (3) or s. 347.489, may be required to forfeit not less than $10 nor more than $200.

SB222, s. 2 Section 2. 347.50 (4m) of the statutes is created to read:

SB222,1,9 347.50 (4m) Any person violating s. 347.486 (3) may be required to forfeit not less than $100 nor more than $300.

SB222, s. 3 Section 3. Initial applicability.

SB222,2,2 (1) This act first applies to motorcycles operated on the day after publication.
