SB295,1,3 1An Act to repeal 341.335 of the statutes; relating to: the duty of a vehicle
2registrant to notify the department of transportation of any change to the
3registrant's name or address.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Current law requires a vehicle registrant to notify the department of
transportation (DOT) of any change to the person's name or address. The person
must provide the notice within ten days after the change and must include the old
and new address or name, or both, and all registration plate numbers held. A person
who fails to provide such notice in a timely manner may be required to forfeit not
more than $50. Current law also requires DOT to provide certain notices (including
orders suspending a person's vehicle registration, service of legal process and
applications for vehicle registration renewal) to a vehicle registrant at that person's
last-known address.
This bill repeals the requirement that a person who has registered a vehicle in
this state notify DOT of any address or name change. However, a person who holds
an operator's license issued by this state remains obligated to provide DOT with
written notice of any address or name change.
For further information see the state fiscal estimate, which will be printed as
an appendix to this bill.
