Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Beginning in the 2000-01 school year, current law directs the state technical
college system board to award a $500 grant to each first-year student who enrolls
in a technical college on a full-time basis within three years of graduating from a
high school in this state and maintains a grade point average of at least 2.0. A
student who receives such a grant is eligible to receive a $500 grant in the following
school year as well.
This bill makes eligible for the grant described above students who receive a
certificate of general educational development from the state superintendent of
public instruction.
