Whereas, Robert W. Dean was born on July 20, 1923, in Tomahawk, Wisconsin,
3and died on December 2, 1999, in Janesville; and

Whereas, Mr. Dean was educated in Tomahawk schools and earned a law
5degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1950; and

Whereas, Mr. Dean served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1943 to 1946; and

Whereas, Mr. Dean served as an assistant district attorney for Jackson County
8in 1950, and also an attorney for villages of Alma Center and Taylor from 1950 to
91952; and

Whereas, Mr. Dean served in the Wisconsin senate from 1959 to 1962, where
11he was elected assistant minority floorleader for the 1961 session; and

Whereas, during his tenure in the legislature, Mr. Dean was a charter member
13of the National Conference of Legislative Leaders; and

Whereas, upon leaving the legislature, Mr. Dean was elected judge of Marathon
15County Circuit Court, Branch 1, from 1964 to 1978, and elected a judge of the
1Wisconsin Court of Appeals, District III, from 1978 until his retirement in 1986; now,
2therefore, be it

3Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
4Wisconsin legislature commend the devoted public service that Robert W. Dean
5contributed to this state, express their sorrow at his death, and extend their
6condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further

7Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
8resolution to Mr. Dean's 7 children, Lucinda Ann Dean (Whitewater), Daniel William
9Dean (Fort Collins, Colorado), Timothy Robert Dean (Chugiak, Arkansas), Robert
10Peter Dean (Fort Collins, Colorado), Kathy Esther Miller (Bennett, Colorado),
11Christopher Robert Dean (Poynette), and Jennifer Holly Andrews (Madison).
