SJR33,1,1 1Relating to: the retirement of Jane Henkel.
SJR33,1,32 Whereas, Jane Henkel will retire from the Legislative Council Staff on January
331, 2000, after 23 years of service; and
SJR33,1,74 Whereas, her potential for providing high quality service to the legislature was
5already evident in her performance as a student at the University of Wisconsin Law
6School, where she served on the law review, was on the Dean's List for 5 semesters,
7and graduated cum laude; and
SJR33,1,98 Whereas, Jane Henkel began work as a staff attorney for the Legislative
9Council Staff in November 1976; and
SJR33,1,1310 Whereas, her varied interests and abilities are reflected in the breadth of areas
11of the law she has influenced through her hard work, including school district
12boundary changes, open enrollment, public libraries, alcohol beverage laws, truancy,
13and educational communications technology; and
SJR33,1,1514 Whereas, she served as legal counsel to the Joint Committee on Employment
15Relations; and

1Whereas, her intelligence and capacity for attention to detail enabled her to edit
2numerous Legislative Council Staff publications over the years, giving them their
3well deserved reputation for clarity and accuracy; and
SJR33,2,64 Whereas, Jane Henkel served as a teacher and mentor for many of the
5attorneys who currently serve the legislature, which will serve as her legacy for years
6to come; and
SJR33,2,97 Whereas, her interest and talent in computer technology was of great
8assistance to the Legislative Council Staff and the legislature in adopting new
9technology; and
SJR33,2,1210 Whereas, in recent years Jane Henkel has assumed a leadership role at the
11Legislative Council Staff, becoming Deputy Director in 1992, and Acting Director in
12October 1999; now, therefore be it
SJR33,2,15 13Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That members of the
14Wisconsin legislature applaud the career of Jane Henkel, thank her for her
15contributions, and wish her a happy retirement; and, be it further
SJR33,2,17 16Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
17resolution to Jane Henkel.
