SR3,1,1 Relating to: commending Jim Irwin and Max McGee on their retirement.

SR3,1,4 Whereas, Green Bay Packers broadcasters Jim Irwin and Max McGee recently broadcast their final Packer game after 20 years of service as the voices of the Green Bay Packers; and

SR3,1,6 Whereas, the names "Jim and Max" are synonymous with Packer football in the state of Wisconsin; and

SR3,1,9 Whereas, the names of Jim Irwin and Max McGee have joined names like Bart Starr, Vince Lombardi, Eric Heiden and Bob Johnson in earning a positive and memorable place in Wisconsin sports history; and

SR3,1,11 Whereas, no other broadcast team in the National Football League has called as many games as Jim and Max; and

SR3,1,14 Whereas, the unique talent of Jim Irwin and Max McGee in calling a great game while at the same time providing pure entertainment will be missed by Packer fans across the nation; and

SR3,2,3 Whereas, Jim Irwin served with the United States Army in Korea and graduated from the University of Missouri prior to beginning his 34 years of covering Wisconsin sports teams; and

SR3,2,6 Whereas, in addition to 30 years as the voice of the Green Bay Packers, Jim Irwin called Wisconsin Badger football for 22 years and Milwaukee Bucks basketball for 14 seasons; and

SR3,2,9 Whereas, Jim Irwin has been named Wisconsin Sports Announcer of the Year for a record-setting 10 times and was elected to the Wisconsin Broadcasting Hall of Fame in 1994; and

SR3,2,12 Whereas, Max McGee graduated from Tulane University and served as a pilot in the United States Air Force for 2 years prior to beginning his professional career with the Green Bay Packers; and

SR3,2,14 Whereas, Max McGee became one of Vince Lombardi's premier wide receivers over his 10-year career, including 2 touchdown receptions in Super Bowl I; and

SR3,2,17 Whereas, Max McGee and his wife, Denise, have put their hearts and souls into ensuring a better life and brighter future for children who have diabetes through the Maxi Fund for Juvenile Diabetes Research; now, therefore, be it

SR3,2,21 Resolved by the senate, That the senate of the state of Wisconsin commends Jim Irwin and Max McGee on their careers, accomplishments and contribution to Wisconsin sports and wishes them the very best upon their retirement; and, be it further

SR3,2,23 Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide copes of this resolution to Jim Irwin and Max McGee.
