AB269,1,2 An Act to amend 29.561 (1), 29.563 (14) (bn) and 29.563 (14) (c) 5. of the statutes; relating to: deer hunting back tag number reservation fees.

Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau

Under current law, the department of natural resources (DNR) reserves a deer hunting back tag (back tag) number for a person who pays a reservation fee. Each year, upon payment of the fee, DNR issues the same back tag number to that person. Under current law, a person must pay a reservation fee for a back tag number of $4.50 together with an issuing fee of 50 cents.

This bill provides that a person is required to pay only a one-time fee for a reservation for a back tag number. Once the fee is paid, DNR must issue the same back tag number to that person each year upon that person's request at no charge. The bill does not change the amount of the fee that a person must pay for the reservation.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

AB269, s. 1 Section 1. 29.561 (1) of the statutes is amended to read:

AB269,2,9 29.561 (1) Collection of fee. The department shall establish a system under which the department shall reserve a deer hunting back tag number for a person who pays a reservation fee requests to reserve a deer hunting back tag number and who pays any required reservation fee. The department may limit the number of back tag numbers that may be reserved under this system. Upon payment of the a one-time fee each year, the department shall issue the same a back tag number to that person. Once a person has paid a fee under this subsection, the department shall issue, at no charge, the same back tag number to that person in each subsequent year at that the person request to reserve a back tag number. Any person, including the department, who reserves a back tag number shall collect, in addition to each reservation fee, an issuing fee of 50 cents.

AB269, s. 2 Section 2. 29.563 (14) (bn) of the statutes is amended to read:

AB269,2,12 29.563 (14) (bn) Reservation fee. Reservation The one-time fee for a reservation for a deer hunting back tag number: $4.50.

AB269, s. 3 Section 3. 29.563 (14) (c) 5. of the statutes is amended to read:

AB269,2,15 29.563 (14) (c) 5. Each reservation for a deer hunting back tag number for which a reservation fee is charged: 50 cents.
