AJR102,1,43 Whereas, this season was supposed to be the "down" year with a new head
4coach, inexperienced players, and a tough schedule; and
AJR102,1,95 Whereas, to the contrary, it has been an astonishing season, considering that
6the players had to adjust to a new system under Head Coach Bo Ryan, were
7handicapped by the loss of 3 players even before their first game, and relied on a
87-man rotation consisting of 2 seniors, one junior, 2 sophomores, and 2 freshmen;

AJR102,1,1110 Whereas, with an 11 to 5 conference record, the team won its first Big Ten
11Conference Championship since 1947, a 55-year wait; and
AJR102,1,1312 Whereas, with 18 wins overall, Coach Ryan is the winningest first-year coach
13in University of Wisconsin men's basketball history; and

1Whereas, the 2001-2002 men's basketball team is the first University of
2Wisconsin team since the 1941 men's basketball National Championship squad to
3defeat all conference opponents during one season; and
AJR102,2,54 Whereas, the basketball team is the first Big Ten team since 1987-88 to win at
5Indiana, Michigan State, and Minnesota in the same season; and
AJR102,2,96 Whereas, in winning games at Michigan State and Indiana, they ended
7Michigan State's 53-game home winning streak and Indiana's 22-game winning
8streak over University of Wisconsin teams at Assembly Hall that spanned over 25
9years; and
AJR102,2,1310 Whereas, the 2001-2002 team is the number one seed in the Big Ten Men's
11Basketball Conference Tournament commencing on March 7 in Indianapolis, a
12ranking no other University of Wisconsin Men's Basketball Team has accomplished;

AJR102,2,1514 Whereas, the University of Wisconsin Men's Basketball Team has proven that
15hard work and determination by student athletes is the road map to success; and

AJR102,2,22 18Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
19legislature of the state of Wisconsin commend and congratulate the 2001-2002
20University of Wisconsin Men's Basketball Team for its hard work and dedication in
21advancing men's basketball to one of its highest levels, and share the pride of the
22citizens of the state of Wisconsin in their team achievement; and be, it further
