AJR12,1,2 Relating to: commemorating and supporting the achievements and contributions of the Boy Scouts of America.

AJR12,1,5 Whereas, a good turn rendered by a British Boy Scout in 1909 to Chicago publisher, William D. Boyce, led to his incorporating the Boy Scouts of America on February 8, 1910; and

AJR12,1,8 Whereas, the Boy Scouts of America is an organization dedicated to training youth in responsible citizenship, personal development, and character guidance, in an effort to instill their duty to God and country; and

AJR12,1,10 Whereas, the United States Congress recognized the irreplaceable value of the Boy Scouts of America by issuing a federal charter in 1916; and

AJR12,1,13 Whereas, the Boy Scouts of America have become one of the largest voluntary youth movements in the United States with a membership exceeding 6 million loyal Americans; and

AJR12,2,2 Whereas, the Scouts and their families representing 142,587 Scouting units, 321 councils, and 16,800 communities in all 50 states have shown a commitment to delivering America's Promise through nearly 200 million community service hours completing projects of importance to all citizens; and

AJR12,2,5 Whereas, the Boy Scouts of America has recently come under attack for its fundamental commitment for building and strengthening the moral character and competence of our youth through adherence to the Scout Oath and Law; and

AJR12,2,8 Whereas, the United States Supreme Court has affirmed the rights of the Boys Scouts of America to maintain their values through standards for membership and leadership as provided for in the Scout Oath and Law; now, therefore, be it

AJR12,2,11 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin Legislature express their support for the Boy Scouts of America and the values instilled through the Scout Oath and Law; and, be it further

AJR12,2,15 Resolved, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature encourage all citizens and organizations in the state to recognize the importance of the Boy Scouts of America to Wisconsin and maintain their support for this cherished tradition of our nation; and, be it further

AJR12,2,17 Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall transmit a copy of this joint resolution to the Boy Scouts of America of the great state of Wisconsin.
