SB244,1,2 1An Act to amend 44.72 (2) (d) of the statutes; relating to: school district use of
2educational technology block grants.

Under current law, the technology for educational achievement in Wisconsin
(TEACH) board provides various types of assistance to educational agencies,
including providing annual educational technology block grants to eligible school
districts. A school district may use the block grants for any purpose related to
educational technology, except that it may not use the grants to pay the salary or
benefits of any school district employee.
Under this bill, in addition to using the block grants for the purpose specified
under current law, an eligible school district may use the block grants for any purpose
related to providing classrooms with access to telephone service, including wireless
service. As under current law, the block grants may not be used to pay the salary or
benefits of any school district employee.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
SB244, s. 1 3Section 1. 44.72 (2) (d) of the statutes is amended to read:
SB244,2,34 44.72 (2) (d) A school district receiving a grant under par. (b) shall deposit the
5moneys in a separate fund. The moneys may be used for any purpose related to

1educational technology or to providing classrooms with access to telephone service,
2including wireless service
, except that a school district may not use the moneys to
3pay the salary or benefits of any school district employee.
