SJR32,1,53 Whereas, Wisconsin has long been a recognized national leader in the fight to
4conserve our national resources, to protect our environment, and to preserve
5wilderness areas; and
SJR32,1,76 Whereas, Wisconsin is the birthplace and home state of former U.S. Senator
7Gaylord Nelson, a renowned environmentalist, and the founder of Earth Day; and
SJR32,1,98 Whereas, as Wisconsin celebrates Earth Day, a number of federal decisions and
9actions that will have negative effects on our environment are being taken; and
SJR32,1,1310 Whereas, upon taking office, President George W. Bush called for new oil
11drilling in sensitive public lands such as the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, which
12could result in increasing environmental pollution without solving our energy needs;

1Whereas, President George W. Bush reversed his position to curb greenhouse
2gas pollution from dirty Midwest power plants and other sources after promising in
3his campaign to do so; and
SJR32,2,64 Whereas, President George W. Bush withdrew new drinking water standards
5that would have protected 12,700,000 Americans from deadly arsenic pollution,
6thereby exposing them to additional risks for cancer and other diseases; and
SJR32,2,87 Whereas, President George W. Bush declared the Kyoto negotiations to reduce
8global warming to be dead; and
SJR32,2,109 Whereas, President George W. Bush is slashing energy efficiency and
10renewable energy research spending by one-third; and
SJR32,2,1311 Whereas, President George W. Bush's U.S. Department of the Interior
12announced its intentions to reverse requirements that mining operations post a bond
13equal to estimated clean-up costs; and
SJR32,2,1514 Whereas, President George W. Bush announced a decision to suspend rules on
15roadless areas in our national forests; now, therefore, be it
SJR32,2,18 16Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
17Wisconsin legislature oppose these actions by President George W. Bush and his
18administration; and, be it further
SJR32,2,22 19Resolved, That, if the members of the senate and assembly find that actions
20by President George W. Bush and his administration will negatively affect
21Wisconsin's environment and natural resources, they will introduce and pass
22legislation to reverse the effects of those actions in Wisconsin; and, be it further
SJR32,2,24 23Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
24resolution to each member of this state's congressional delegation.
