2001 Senate JOINT RESOLUTION 67

SJR67,1,2 Relating to: commending the devoted public service of the members of the Capitol Police Department.

SJR67,1,5 Whereas, the Capitol Police Department is responsible for the security of more than 800 buildings and facilities throughout the state of Wisconsin, including State Fair Park; and

SJR67,1,7 Whereas, the Capitol Police were combined with the State Fair Park Police Department to become one force to protect the people of Wisconsin; and

SJR67,1,9 Whereas, the Capitol Police Department has statewide jurisdiction and works cooperatively with law enforcement agencies throughout Wisconsin; and

SJR67,1,12 Whereas, the department is responsible for ensuring the safety of all who come to exercise their rights to a democratic form of government through rallies, demonstrations, and marches on state property; and

SJR67,1,14 Whereas, the Capitol Police maintain the freedom of speech, free expression, and the demonstration of Wisconsin ideas; and

SJR67,2,4 Whereas, due to the challenges faced by the United States of America and the state of Wisconsin, they have put in long hours and demonstrated dedication to their jobs to ensure protection when the entire nation is under a heightened risk of terrorism; and

SJR67,2,6 Whereas, their work has helped to guarantee the safety of other state employees as well as all citizens of the state; now, therefore, be it

SJR67,2,10 Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commend the devoted public service of the members of the Capitol Police Department for their contributions and sacrifices contributed to this state; and, be it further

SJR67,2,13 Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint resolution to each member of the Capitol Police Department as a small token of the gratitude of the people of Wisconsin.
