AB971,1,2 1An Act to create 84.04 (2m) of the statutes; relating to: holding a public hearing
2on a proposed closing of a wayside.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, the Department of Transportation (DOT) may construct and
maintain waysides along, or in close proximity with, state trunk highways. DOT also
has the discretion of closing an existing wayside.
This bill requires DOT to hold a public hearing before it decides to close an
existing wayside. The public hearing shall be advertised and shall be held in a
courthouse or other public place in or near the region that would be affected by the
proposed closing.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB971, s. 1 3Section 1. 84.04 (2m) of the statutes is created to read:
AB971,2,34 84.04 (2m) If the department determines that it may be necessary to close a
5wayside, the department shall hold a public hearing on the matter in a courthouse
6or other convenient public place in or near the region to be affected by the proposed

1closing. The public hearing shall be advertised and held as are state trunk highway
2change hearings. The department shall consider and evaluate the testimony
3presented at the public hearing before determining that it will close a wayside.
