AJR61,1,2 Relating to: commending and congratulating Matt Kenseth, his family, and his crew on winning the NASCAR Winston Cup Championship.

AJR61,1,6 Whereas, Matt Kenseth, a native of Cambridge, Wisconsin, was introduced to racing when he was just 13 years old, when his dad made him a deal that, if he bought a racecar and drove it, Matt would have to help work on it, then after turning 16 Matt would get behind the wheel; and

AJR61,1,12 Whereas, by the time Matt was 19 he had moved up to the ultra-competitive Wisconsin late model ranks, where he became the youngest winner ever in ARTGO Challenge Series history; and shortly after that accomplishment Matt won track titles at the Madison International Speedway and Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna, and also became the youngest driver to ever win the prestigious Miller Genuine Draft National Championships; and

AJR61,2,2 Whereas, the year 2000 was one of great success for Matt Kenseth as he raced in the Winston Cup Series and earned the prestigious Raybestos Rookie of the Year title; and in 2002, Matt's 3rd year in the Winston Cup, he earned 5 wins at a variety of tracks throughout the year and his pit crew won the World Pit Crew Competition for the 2nd straight year; and

AJR61,2,4 Whereas, this year, 2003, proved to be the most successful as Matt Kenseth won the NASCAR Winston Cup Championship; now, therefore, be it

AJR61,2,7 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature recognize Matt Kenseth for his outstanding accomplishment of winning the NASCAR Winston Cup Championship; and, be it further

AJR61,2,10 Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall transmit copies of this joint resolution to Matt, to each member of his crew, and to his parents, Roy and Nicki Kenseth, with the message that they have made all Wisconsinites proud.
