2duty in the Middle East and praying for the prompt and safe return of their

SJR24,1,54 Whereas, Dictator Saddam Hussein's regime in Iraq continues to pose a
5significant threat to United States interests; and
SJR24,1,96 Whereas, Saddam Hussein, on multiple occasions, has demonstrated a
7willingness to use weapons of mass destruction, including conventional, chemical,
8nuclear, and ballistic missile programs against neighboring nations, the citizens of
9Iraq, and innocent civilians throughout the world; and
SJR24,1,1210 Whereas, Saddam Hussein's clandestine weapons programs threaten global
11peace, the United States interests in the Persian Gulf, and the continued stability
12of roughly 55% of the world's oil reserves; and
SJR24,1,1513 Whereas, the elimination of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction,
14particularly among states that sponsor terrorism, has been the principal goal of the
15United Nations Security Council; and

1Whereas, making concessions to rogue nations like Iraq, which is in violation
2of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1441, will not ensure any regional
3security but rather will continue the precarious imperilment of the international
4community; and
SJR24,2,65 Whereas, there are currently more than 2,200 courageous Wisconsin soldiers
6and airmen on active duty; now, therefore, be it
SJR24,2,10 7Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the legislature of
8the state of Wisconsin expresses its support of the men and women of the United
9States Armed Forces for their courage and decision to remove Saddam Hussein from
10power; and, be it further
SJR24,2,13 11Resolved, That the Wisconsin legislature commends the families and friends
12of those soldiers serving on active duty in the Middle East and prays for the prompt
13and safe return of their loved ones; and, be it further
SJR24,2,16 14Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall transmit a copy of this joint
15resolution to the immediate family of each of the Wisconsin residents mobilized for
16military action in the Middle East.
