Whereas, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers, under the
5direction of Head Coach Bruce Pearl, earned a spot in the NCAA Division I
6Tournament for the first time in the 107-year history of the basketball program; and

Whereas, the Panthers finished the regular season with a record of 24-7,
8claiming a 2nd place finish in the Horizon League and ending at 13-3 in conference
9play, capping their best Division I record in school history; and

Whereas, with the leadership, dedication, and ambition of a head coach in his
112nd year at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the Panthers' 24 victories this
12season tie a school record for wins in a single season; and

Whereas, the spectacular victory on their home court over the Butler Bulldogs,
14in front of 10,115 fans, the largest home crowd in University of
1Wisconsin-Milwaukee history, gave the Panthers a perfect home record of 13-0,
2including 11-0 at the Klotsche Center; and

Whereas, Bruce Pearl was named Horizon League Coach of the Year for the 2nd
4straight year, only the 3rd coach in the 24-year history of the league to be so named;

Whereas, Coach Pearl's record of 40 wins with the Panthers in his first 2
7seasons ties a school record for the most wins in a coach's first 2 years at the
8University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee; and

Whereas, the fans of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers will
10break out their black and gold apparel and gather together to cheer on the team as
11they enter the "Big Dance"; now, therefore, be it

12Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
13legislature of the state of Wisconsin commend and congratulate the 2002-2003
14University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Men's Basketball Team and Head Coach Bruce
15Pearl for their hard work and dedication in advancing men's basketball to one of its
16highest levels, and share the pride of the citizens of the state of Wisconsin in their
17team achievement; and, be it further

19resolution to Head Coach Bruce Pearl, his staff, each member of the team, Chancellor
