SJR5,1,32 Whereas, Edward W. Reuther was born on March 15, 1915, in Milwaukee,
3Wisconsin, and died on April 30, 2002; and
SJR5,1,44 Whereas, he graduated from Messmer High School; and
SJR5,1,65 Whereas, Mr. Reuther was elected to the Wisconsin senate in 1944, serving in
6the 1945 and 1947 sessions; and
SJR5,1,87 Whereas, Mr. Reuther served on the senate Committee on Education and
8Public Welfare; and
SJR5,1,109 Whereas, during his tenure in the senate, Mr. Reuther introduced legislation
10to regulate cigarette sales to minors, license food handlers, and legalize bingo; and
SJR5,1,1211 Whereas, Mr. Reuther subsequently worked for the Milwaukee Braves, where
12he was in charge of ticket sales; and
SJR5,1,1513 Whereas, when he learned that the Milwaukee Braves were leaving the city,
14Mr. Reuther applied to the City of Milwaukee treasurer's office and worked there for
1518 years, retiring in 1981; now, therefore, be it

1Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
2Wisconsin legislature commend the devoted public service that Edward W. Reuther
3contributed to this state and his community, express their sorrow at his death, and
4extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
SJR5,2,7 5Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
6resolution to Mr. Reuther's wife, Madeline, to his daughter, Mary Beth Tennessen of
7Port Washington, and to his sister, Victoria Giese of Palmyra.
