SJR71,1,63 Whereas, Specialist Michelle Witmer, daughter of John and Lori Witmer, sister
4of Rachel, Timothy, Charity, and Mark, was born on February 13, 1984, and died on
5April 9, 2004, in Baghdad, Iraq, defending herself and fellow soldiers from ambush;
6and
SJR71,1,9 7Whereas, Specialist Witmer served with distinction and honor with the
8Wisconsin National Guard 32nd Military Police Company of Milwaukee and
9Madison; and
SJR71,1,1010 Whereas, Specialist Witmer was home-schooled and graduated in 2002; and
SJR71,1,1311 Whereas, while serving in Iraq, Specialist Witmer volunteered at an Iraqi
12orphanage for disabled children, had a keen interest in government, drama, music,
13and animals, and devoted a great deal of passion and time to these interests; and
SJR71,1,1514 Whereas, Specialist Witmer made the ultimate sacrifice for her country while
15advancing the cause of freedom for the Iraqi people; and

1Whereas, Specialist Witmer was awarded 2 medals of distinction, the Purple
2Heart and the Bronze Star; and
SJR71,2,4 3Whereas, Specialist Witmer will always be remembered for her bravery and
4courage; now, therefore, be it
SJR71,2,8 5Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
6Wisconsin legislature commend the life of Wisconsin Army National Guard
7Specialist Michelle Witmer, express their sorrow at the loss of her life, and extend
8their condolences to her family and friends; and, be it further
SJR71,2,11 9Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
10resolution to Specialist Witmer's parents, John and Lori Witmer; her sisters, Rachel
11and Charity; and her brothers, Timothy and Mark.
