2003 Senate RESOLUTION 13

SR13,1,2 Relating to: recognizing the existence of the Hmong culture and its value to all Wisconsinites and the right of the Hmong people to preserve their culture.

SR13,1,4 Whereas, Hmong culture is integral to the identity of Hmong American citizens of Wisconsin and is an invaluable part of the multicultural diversity of this state; and

SR13,1,6 Whereas, the influx of the Hmong has added richness to the "world cultures" represented in American society today; and

SR13,1,11 Whereas, Hmong traditions date back many thousands of years, a dynamic force that holds people together and keeps their culture intact. These practices reinforce the ideas, meanings, and experiences that shape individuals and their communities through their social interactions and interrelationships. Hence, the present is possible only because the past has remained meaningful; and

SR13,1,14 Whereas, overall, Hmong Americans will continue to carry on many of their traditions, for without them the meanings of the self and community would not only be called into question, but seriously threatened; now, therefore, be it

SR13,2,3 Resolved by the senate, That the Wisconsin senate recognizes the existence of the Hmong culture and its value to all Wisconsinites and the right of the Hmong people to preserve their culture; and, be it further

SR13,2,7 Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall transmit a copy of this resolution to Ju Lang Her, Executive Director of the Shee Yee Community of Milwaukee, Inc., with a request that he provide copies of this resolution to other organizations in Wisconsin that assist the Hmong people in this state preserve their culture.
