SR20,1,1 1Relating to: celebrating the remarkable life of John (Jake) Rose.
SR20,1,42 Whereas, John M. "Jake" Rose was a lifelong resident of Green Bay and
3graduated from Green Bay East High School, Northwestern University, and
4Harvard University School of Business; and
SR20,1,65 Whereas, Jake Rose was devoted to his wife of 62 years, Meredith Burke Rose,
6as well as to their 5 children and families; and
SR20,1,107 Whereas, Jake Rose served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1946, retiring as a
8lieutenant commander, and was employed by Kellogg-Citizens National Bank, now
9Associated Bank, from 1940 to 1941 before becoming chairman of Associated
10Bancorp in 1946, where he remained until his retirement in 1986; and
SR20,2,211 Whereas, Jake Rose was actively involved in the Green Bay community and
12played a part in many projects, including the creation of the pipeline to Lake
13Michigan for Green Bay's water supply, construction of 3 bridges across the Fox
14River, and the establishment of the University of Wisconsin campus in Green Bay,
15and he also served as chairman of the Green Bay Redevelopment Authority and the

1Metropolitan Sewage Commission, as president of the Green Bay Area Board of
2Education, and on the boards of several other area organizations; and
SR20,2,83 Whereas, Jake Rose earned several well-deserved awards during his years of
4service, including the first Chancellor's Award from the University of
5Wisconsin-Green Bay, an honorary L.L.D. from St. Norbert College, a Brotherhood
6Award from the Green Bay B'Nai B'rith, the Green Bay Rotary Free Enterprise
7Award, and the First Citizen Award from the Green Bay Area Labor Management
8Council; and
SR20,2,109 Whereas, Jake Rose has earned much respect and recognition for his many
10contributions and will be sorely missed; now, therefore, be it
SR20,2,13 11Resolved by the senate, That the Wisconsin senate hereby celebrates the
12remarkable life of John "Jake" Rose and extends its deepest sympathies to his family,
13friends, and colleagues; and, be it further
SR20,2,15 14Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall transmit copies of this resolution
15to Jake's wife, Meredith Burke Rose, and to each of their 5 children.
