SR4,1,2 1Relating to: supporting the reauthorization of the existing Community Services
2Block Grant and its funding to community action agencies.
SR4,1,53 Whereas, Wisconsin's 16 community action agencies have been working in our
4communities to improve the lives and well-being of all of our citizens for over 35
5years; and
SR4,1,86 Whereas, our community action agencies have delivered a comprehensive
7array of opportunities to assist those citizens who reside at the lowest levels of the
8economic ladder to advance economically and socially; and
SR4,1,149 Whereas, our community action agencies have developed innovative and
10effective strategies to promote affordable housing and homeownership,
11microenterprise development, youth development, crime prevention, access to food
12and nutrition, Head Start expansion, community-based economic development,
13housing rehabilitation, and other initiatives to promote the development of our
14human potential; and

1Whereas, in 2001 our community action agencies assisted over 380,000 of our
2citizens and provided volunteers who contributed more than 600,000 hours of service
3to our communities; and
SR4,2,74 Whereas, in 2001 our 16 community action agencies received $7,000,000 of
5Community Service Block Grant funds and used these funds to leverage more than
6$135,000,000 of additional funds, including $25,000,000 of private funds with which
7to benefit Wisconsin's communities; and
SR4,2,108 Whereas, the federal Community Services Block Grant provides the core
9funding for our community action agencies and is scheduled for reauthorization in
10the upcoming session of Congress; now, therefore, be it
SR4,2,14 11Resolved by the senate, That the Wisconsin state senate urges President
12George W. Bush and the Wisconsin congressional delegation to support the
13reauthorization of the existing Community Services Block Grant and its funding to
14community action agencies; and, be it further
SR4,2,19 15Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide a copy of this resolution to
16President George W. Bush, to the president and secretary of the U.S. senate, to the
17speaker and clerk of the U.S. house of representatives, and to each member of the
18congressional delegation from this state, attesting the adoption of this resolution by
19the 2003 senate of the state of Wisconsin.
