2duty in the Middle East and praying for the prompt and safe return of their
3loved ones.
SR8,1,54 Whereas, Dictator Saddam Hussein's regime in Iraq continues to pose a
5significant threat to United States interests; and
SR8,1,96 Whereas, Saddam Hussein, on multiple occasions, has demonstrated a
7willingness to use weapons of mass destruction, including conventional, chemical,
8nuclear, and ballistic missile programs against neighboring nations, the citizens of
9Iraq, and innocent civilians throughout the world; and
SR8,1,1110 Whereas, Saddam Hussein's clandestine weapons programs threaten global
11peace and the United States interests in the Persian Gulf; and
SR8,1,1412 Whereas, the elimination of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction,
13particularly among states that sponsor terrorism, has been the principal goal of the
14United Nations Security Council; and

1Whereas, making concessions to rogue nations like Iraq, which is in violation
2of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1441, will not ensure any regional
3security but rather will continue the precarious imperilment of the international
4community; and
SR8,2,75 Whereas, military service requires great personal sacrifice for modest pay and
6long periods of being away from family, friends, and community; and troops in the
7Middle East will face harsh desert conditions; and
SR8,2,98 Whereas, those who enlist put their trust in the wisdom of our nation's leaders
9and know that they could, at any time, give their lives for their country; and
SR8,2,1210 Whereas, approximately 2,300 members of the Wisconsin army and air
11national guard, constituting about 24% of the Wisconsin membership, have been
12called to active duty as the United States mobilizes for war against Iraq; and
SR8,2,1413 Whereas, this represents the largest percentage of Wisconsin army and air
14national guard members that have been activated since 1961; now, therefore, be it
SR8,2,17 15Resolved by the senate, That the Wisconsin senate expresses its support of
16the men and women of the United States Armed Forces for their courage to remove
17Saddam Hussein from power; and, be it further
SR8,2,20 18Resolved, That the Wisconsin senate commends the families and friends of
19those soldiers serving on active duty in the Middle East and prays for the prompt and
20safe return of their loved ones; and, be it further
SR8,2,23 21Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall transmit a copy of this resolution
22to the immediate family of each of the Wisconsin residents mobilized for military
23action in the Middle East.
