AJR107,1,1 Relating to: the life and military service of Sergeant Travis Van Zoest.

AJR107,1,4 Whereas, Sergeant Travis Van Zoest was born on January 31, 1985, in Madison, Wisconsin, and died on June 6, 2006, while conducting combat operations in Afghanistan; and

AJR107,1,8 Whereas, Sergeant Van Zoest attended Westside and Royal Oaks elementary schools in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, graduated from Century High School in Bismarck, North Dakota, in May 2003, and attended Bismarck State College and Minot State University; and

AJR107,1,12 Whereas, Sergeant Van Zoest was enlisted in the Army National Guard as a private (E-2) on February 8, 2002, in E Battery of the 1st of the 188th Air Defense Artillery, North Dakota Army National Guard, as a Man Portable Air Defense System (MANPADS) crewmember; and

AJR107,2,4 Whereas, Sergeant Van Zoest received numerous commendations for his exemplary service to his country including, the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, the Good Conduct Medal, the Reserve Components Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, the North Dakota Legion of Merit, the Army Combat Action Badge, and the Expert Marksman Badge; and

AJR107,2,7 Whereas, Sergeant Van Zoest enjoyed his studies in chemical engineering and business, and he especially enjoyed spending time with his family in both Wisconsin and North Dakota; and

AJR107,2,9 Whereas, Sergeant Van Zoest made the ultimate sacrifice to his country while protecting our freedom and way of life in Operation Enduring Freedom; and

AJR107,2,11 Whereas, Sergeant Van Zoest will always be remembered for his bravery and courage and will never be forgotten; now, therefore, be it

AJR107,2,14 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commend the life of Sergeant Travis Van Zoest, express sorrow at his death, and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further

AJR107,2,18 Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint resolution to Sergeant Van Zoest's father and stepmother, Ben and Deborah Van Zoest of Dane, Wisconsin, and to his brother, Derrick Van Zoest of Bismarck, North Dakota.
