AJR14,1,1 1Relating to: the military service of Pvt. 1st Class James Anagnostopoulos.
AJR14,1,42 Whereas, James Anagnostopoulos began his military service by enlisting in the
3Wisconsin Army National Guard in 1964, and later went on to active duty with the
4326th Medical Battalion of the 101st Airborne Division; and
AJR14,1,65 Whereas, once in Vietnam, Pvt. 1st Class James Anagnostopoulos volunteered
6with the 173rd Airborne Brigade as a combat medic; and
AJR14,1,97 Whereas, while on a mission on February 27, 1968, Pvt. Anagnostopoulos and
8Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry came under fire from the North
9Vietnamese Army; and
AJR14,1,1210 Whereas, under heavy fire, Pvt. Anagnostopoulos ran across 150 meters of open
11terrain to treat the wounded, pulled an injured platoon leader to cover, and then
12moved forward to treat 3 casualties within 10 meters of an enemy machine gun; and
AJR14,1,1413 Whereas, while treating the 3 casualties, Pvt. Anagnostopoulos personally
14eliminated the enemy gunner and then moved on to treat 2 new casualties; and

1Whereas, Pvt. Anagnostopoulos secured a helicopter evacuation of the 6
2wounded he treated after personally carrying 3 of them through enemy fire; and
AJR14,2,43 Whereas, when fighting broke out a 2nd time, Pvt. Anagnostopoulos rushed
4across 100 meters of open ground and aided in the rescue of 5 more paratroopers; and
AJR14,2,95 Whereas, in recognition of his heroic acts, SP5 James Anagnostopoulos was
6awarded the military's 2nd highest award for valor, the Distinguished Service Cross,
7and was also awarded an Army Commendation Medal with "V" device, Combat
8Medical Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Medal, and several other campaign medals
9during his tour in Vietnam; and
AJR14,2,1210 Whereas, James Anagnostopoulos now resides in Westfield, Wisconsin, with
11his wife Jeanine, enjoys fishing and spending time with his grandchildren, and is a
12Life Member of the Neenah Valley VFW Post 6003; now, therefore, be it
AJR14,2,15 13Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
14Wisconsin legislature honor James Anagnostopoulos for his service to his country
15and for his heroic acts on February 27, 1968; and, be it further
AJR14,2,17 16Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
17resolution to James Anagnostopoulos and his wife, Jeanine.
