AJR82,1,32 Whereas, William J. Rogers was born December 9, 1930, in Appleton to the late
3Claude and Lucille Rogers; and
AJR82,1,64 Whereas, Mr. Rogers graduated from Kaukauna High School, attended Mexico
5City College, and received his bachelor of science degree from St. Norbert College;
6and
AJR82,1,77 Whereas, Mr. Rogers served his country in the Korean War; and
AJR82,1,118 Whereas, Mr. Rogers served in the Wisconsin state assembly from 1963 to 1985
9where he served as chair of the joint committee on review of administrative rules
10from 1977 to 1983, democratic caucus chair from 1971 to 1977, and vice-chair of the
11highway committee from 1973 to 1977; and
AJR82,1,1512 Whereas, Mr. Rogers is credited with many legislative accomplishments,
13including requiring child restraint systems in automobiles, putting flashing red
14lights on school buses, and fighting discrimination and racial imbalance in public
15schools; and

1Whereas, Mr. Rogers played an instrumental role in founding the 1,000 Islands
2Conservancy and the Golden Venture Home of Kaukauna and secured budgeting for
3STH 441 20 years before it was paved; and
AJR82,2,54 Whereas, Mr. Rogers spent his retirement traveling the world and researching
5family history; and
AJR82,2,76 Whereas, Mr. Rogers was a skilled orator whose speeches from the assembly
7floor captured the close attention—and votes—of his colleagues; and
AJR82,2,108 Whereas, Mr. Rogers will be fondly remembered by those closest to him: his 10
9children, 12 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and
10friends; now, therefore, be it
AJR82,2,14 11Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
12Wisconsin legislature commend the devoted public service of William J. Rogers,
13express their sorrow at his death, and extend their condolences to his family and
14friends; and, be it further
AJR82,2,16 15Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
16resolution to Mr. Rogers' family.
