SJR70,1,3 1Relating to: the life and service of Lance Corporal Travis Wichlacz of the United
2States Marine Corps Reserves, who lost his life during Operation Iraqi
3Freedom.
SJR70,1,74 Whereas, on February 5, 2005, Lance Corporal Travis Wichlacz, of West Bend,
5Wisconsin, a member of the Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment,
6died as a result of wounds received during enemy action in the Babil Province of Iraq;
7and
SJR70,1,118 Whereas, Lance Corporal Wichlacz graduated from West Bend West High
9School in 2002, where he had been a track, wrestling, and football star and where he
10will be remembered as a committed, loyal, hardworking man with a radiant smile
11that "would light up any room he walked into," according to his former principal; and
SJR70,1,1512 Whereas, Lance Corporal Wichlacz was an active member of the Boy Scouts of
13America, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout on June 17, 2002, after earning 21 merit
14badges and installing 6 picnic tables at the Silverbrook Girl Scout Camp of the
15greater Milwaukee area; and

1Whereas, Lance Corporal Wichlacz will be remembered as someone who was
2tough and competitive, as well as someone who, according to his father, "was nothing
3but good," and "tried hard to follow the rules"; and
SJR70,2,64 Whereas, Lance Corporal Travis Wichlacz provided faithful and honorable
5service to the people of the state of Wisconsin and the people of the United States,
6and considered the day he joined the Marines one of the proudest of his life; and
SJR70,2,97 Whereas, the people of Wisconsin mourn the death of Lance Corporal Travis
8Wichlacz and thank him, with the deepest respect and gratitude, for his bravery and
9for making the ultimate sacrifice for his country; and
SJR70,2,1110 Whereas, Lance Corporal Travis Wichlacz was laid to rest on February 12th,
112005; now, therefore, be it
SJR70,2,15 12Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the legislature of
13the state of Wisconsin commemorates the remarkable life of Lance Corporal Travis
14Wichlacz and extends its deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and colleagues;
15and, be it further
SJR70,2,18 16Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall transmit a copy of this joint
17resolution to Dennis and Virginia Wichlacz of West Bend, Wisconsin, and Laura and
18David Garcia of Davenport, Iowa.
