Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, certain highway routes and bridges have been designated
and marked to memorialize, commemorate, or recognize certain individuals, groups,
or events. This bill directs the Department of Transportation to designate and, upon
receipt of sufficient contributions from interested parties, mark the planned STH
156 bridge across the Shioc River in the town of Navarino as the "Avery Wilber
Memorial Bridge" as a living memorial to and in honor of a World War II hero. No
state funds, other than from contributions from interested parties, may be used for
the erection or maintenance of any marker to identify the bridge as the "Avery Wilber
Memorial Bridge."
