AB482,1,2 1An Act to create 119.16 (11) of the statutes; relating to: prohibiting the
2Milwaukee Public Schools from imposing residency requirements on teachers.

Beginning July 1, 2009, this bill prohibits the Milwaukee Public Schools from
requiring, as a condition of employment, that a teacher reside within the school
district.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB482, s. 1 3Section 1. 119.16 (11) of the statutes is created to read:
AB482,1,64 119.16 (11) Residency requirements. (a) In this subsection, "teacher" means
5any person holding a license or permit issued by the state superintendent whose
6employment by a school district requires that he or she hold that license or permit.
AB482,1,87 (b) The board may not require, as a condition of employment, that a teacher
8reside within the district.

1Section 2. Initial applicability.
AB482,2,42 (1) This act first applies to teachers covered by a collective bargaining
3agreement that is in effect on the effective date of this subsection upon the
4expiration, extension, renewal, or modification of the agreement.
AB482, s. 3 5Section 3. Effective date.
AB482,2,66 (1) This act takes effect on July 1, 2009.
