AB895,1,2 1An Act relating to: agreement for state officers to enforce federal immigration
2law.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Federal law authorizes the U.S. attorney general to enter into an agreement
with a state for officers or employees of the state to perform functions of federal
immigration officers relating to the investigation, apprehension, or detention of
aliens. This bill requires that by July 1, 2008, the secretary of corrections request
that the U.S. attorney general enter into such an agreement for Department of
Corrections employees to perform functions relating to the investigation,
apprehension, or detention of aliens in correctional institutions operated by the
department.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:

AB895,2,34 (1) The secretary of corrections shall by July 1, 2008, request that the attorney
5general of the United States enter into an agreement under 8 USC 1357 (g)

1authorizing employees of the department of corrections to perform functions of
2federal immigration officers relating to the investigation, apprehension, or detention
3of aliens in state correctional institutions.
