AJR89,1,2 1Relating to: the life and military service of Lance Corporal Andrew Matus of the
2United States Marine Corps who lost his life during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
AJR89,1,53 Whereas, Lance Corporal Andrew Matus was born on September 14, 1987, in
4Rice Lake, Wisconsin, and died on January 21, 2007, from enemy action in Anbar
5Province in Iraq; and
AJR89,1,86 Whereas, Lance Corporal Andrew Matus was a 2005 graduate of Weyerhaeuser
7High School in Weyerhaeuser, Wisconsin, and enlisted in the United States Marine
8Corps in 2005; and
AJR89,1,129 Whereas, Lance Corporal Andrew Matus served with distinction with the
10Battalion Landing Team, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 15th Marine
11Expeditionary Unit, I Marine Expeditionary Force, and was awarded the Purple
12Heart posthumously; and
AJR89,1,1513 Whereas, Lance Corporal Andrew Matus' family and fellow citizens are very
14proud of him and know that he died doing what he wanted to do: serve the nation
15and fight for freedom; and

1Whereas, Lance Corporal Andrew Matus embodied the United States Marine
2Corps core values of honor, courage, and commitment and he will be sorely missed;
3now, therefore, be it
AJR89,2,7 4Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the legislature of
5the state of Wisconsin commemorates the remarkable life of Lance Corporal Andrew
6Matus and extends its deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and colleagues; and,
7be it further
AJR89,2,9 8Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall transmit a copy of this joint
9resolution to Andrew's parents, Gary and Donna Matus of Chetek, Wisconsin.
