SJR53,1,1 1Relating to: the 75th Anniversary of the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
SJR53,1,42 Whereas, courageous men and women have served our country in military
3conflicts over the years, and many have sacrificed their lives for the freedoms we all
4enjoy; and
SJR53,1,85 Whereas, over 1,000,000 men and women have been severely injured in the
6course of conflict with an enemy force, or while held by an enemy force as a prisoner
7of war, or killed in the course of action, thus receiving the Purple Heart for Military
8Merit; and
SJR53,1,119 Whereas, the Purple Heart was established on August 7, 1782, in Newburgh,
10New York, during the Revolutionary War, when General George Washington issued
11an order establishing the Decoration of the Purple Heart; and
SJR53,1,1312 Whereas, the Military Order of the Purple Heart was founded in 1932 to protect
13and promote the mutual interests of Purple Heart recipients; and
SJR53,1,1514 Whereas, there are over 1,535,000 recipients of the Purple Heart Medal,
15approximately 550,000 of whom are still living; and

1Whereas, the Military Order of the Purple Heart has sustained and encouraged
2support for Purple Heart recipients in Wisconsin and nationwide, and the Military
3Order of the Purple Heart is the only veterans service organization comprised
4strictly of wounded combat veterans; and
SJR53,2,75 Whereas, the tremendous dedication and sacrifice on the part of these veterans
6is recognized and emphasized by the Military Order of the Purple Heart, and the
7organization has worked tirelessly to ensure due support for these veterans; and
SJR53,2,108 Whereas, August 7, 2007, will be the 225th anniversary of the original
9proclamation of the Decoration of the Purple Heart as well as the 75th anniversary
10of the Military Order of the Purple Heart; and
SJR53,2,1411 Whereas, on August 7, 2007, the state of Wisconsin will recognize Purple Heart
12Day and will commend all recipients of the Purple Heart and members of the Military
13Order of the Purple Heart for their demonstration of heroism on behalf of Wisconsin;
14now, therefore, be it
SJR53,2,18 15Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
16Wisconsin legislature congratulate the Military Order of the Purple Heart on its 75th
17anniversary and are indebted to Purple Heart recipients for their efforts for our
18country.
